Durban – Wednesday 1 November – ITHUBA, licensed operator of the National Lottery, this week kicked off its annual Retailer Development Programme hosting twenty nine (29) of its top performing retailers at an intensive six-day business skills enhancement course. In partnership with leading executive institution, Milpark Business School the course is aimed at developing leadership skills of the business owners with modules that include Leadership for Retailers, New Ventures Creation and Sales Management.
Comprising mostly of female-owned retailers (a total of 18) the programme is in line with ITHUBA’s corporate social responsibility mandate aimed at:
· Advancing retailers in business
· Economic and social empowerment including BBBEE supplier procurement, training and skills development, promotion of small business and job creation.
The 29 retailers were selected based on top sales within each region and come from all provinces in South Africa. “As a responsible corporate citizen, we value the role played by micro and small businesses in growing South Africa’s economy,” says ITHUBA group CEO Mrs Charmaine Mabuza. “As business we are playing our part by partnering with small enterprises as they form an integral part of our value chain.” Under the astute business leadership of Mrs Mabuza, the Retailer Development Programme is geared at ongoing development of business skills to ensure sustainable business growth for each retailer. “We worked hand in hand with an executive training institution looking at the nuances of our retailers, then paired modules which provided solutions to the business needs. This focused approach ensures that at the end of this six days our retailers are empowered to go back with the practical know how. For ITHUBA this is about leaving a lasting impact in the areas we operate in.”
As a respected business owner in her own right, the Retailer Development Programme is something that resonates with Mrs Mabuza. “This initiative is not just about ticking the business box but one I passionately believe in,” says Mrs Mabuza. “I have walked in the shoes of these retailers, facing similar challenges. Being in a position to provide solutions to these challenges is highly rewarding,” concludes Mrs Mabuza.
