Written by Hendrik RautenbachA Cape Town man who makes a living as a street vendor, had his prayers answered when he became the latest multi-millionaire after winning Saturday’s (03 September) estimated LOTTO jackpot of over R86 million.
The man came forward to claim his winnings, after realising on Sunday that he had won from a ticket he bought at Shoprite in Durbanville, and played via the manual selection.
“The first think we did when I realised I had won, we prayed and thanked the Lord, only my wife and children know that we have won,” said the player.
“I play the Lottery games twice a month, and I mix my numbers each time I play, this time around I specifically played LOTTO and not the other games, as I went with my gut feeling.
“I have never won this much money before, the most I won from a game was R450.
“All my life I have always dreamt of winning a big jackpot, and now I can build a house from my family,” added the winner.
In his spare time, he gives motivational talks at schools. When asked about what is the one thing he will start doing now, that he couldn’t do before, he responded to say that “I can now start to relax.”

On 21 December, the National Lottery Operator reported that 2 LOTTO jackpot winners had not come forward to claim their prizes. The R8,7 million LOTTO jackpot winner has since come forward to claim his prize.
The middle-aged man from Soweto arrived at the ITHUBA office in Sandton in the company of his male neighbor, whom he says he trusts completely. The winner admitted that he had already told various members of his family about his windfall. The unmarried father of 3 said that he had lost count of how many years he has been unemployed. He stays with his mother in a family home in Soweto, and said that one of the first things he wants to do with his money is to buy a house and build a better home for his children. “Winning this LOTTO jackpot has indeed uplifted my dignity. I have lost count of how many years I have been without a job. When I stopped working years ago, I used whatever money I had saved to start a loan business in the township as means of survival. Every month I lend people money and they return it with interest. It is with this money that I had been able to take care of my family and send my children to school.”
When asked about why it took him long to come forward to claim his winnings, he replied: “I didn’t realise that I had the winning ticket. I heard that there was a winner from Soweto – but Soweto is massive, I did not think it could be me. I checked my ticket at the retail store where I shop and I was shocked to learn that I had won the jackpot. Although I play the lottery very often, I was merely just hoping for a few hundreds of thousands, winning millions is a blessing. I am also a regular SportStake 13 player and have won a few thousands from the game. I actually thought my winnings would come from SportStake”, he said.

A 68 year old pensioner from Pretoria scooped the R4,9 million LOTTO PLUS 2 jackpot from the 3rd November 2018 draw.
The pensioner visited the Ithuba office in Sandton on Friday the 7th of November in the company of his wife and two children. The family all stay in an RDP house in Pretoria which they have not been able to extend or renovate in any way. Apart from the winner’s pension grant, the family also survives on the son’s income from his job as a taxi driver.
When asked about how he was planning on spending his new fortune, the winner said: “First of all, I want to help my children improve their lives and be independent. They want to start their own businesses and want start-up homes, I will help them achieve that. My daughter also wants to further her studies and that makes me happy. As for me and my wife, we will not move out of our RDP house, we will just renovate it into a beautiful, well-furnished home. I will finally be able to buy a big plasma TV and a stunning lounge suite where my wife and I can relax peacefully. I really cannot wait for our lives to get better, I feel like my dignity as the head of the family has been restored”, said the winner.
The winner received trauma counselling and extensive financial advice organised by ITHUBA. “The financial advice really helped me realise that if I use these winnings wisely, I will never be poor again in my life. I intend on sticking to the financial counsel I received — just the terrifying thought of going back to poverty on its own, will keep me motivated”, he concluded.

Multi-millionaire pensioner ready to fulfill lifelong dream of boarding a plane

The latest LOTTO jackpot winner is R56,999,176 richer and ready to make her lifelong dream of boarding a plane a reality. The excited 63-year-old pensioner was accompanied to the ITHUBA offices by her husband, children and grandchild.
The family expressed how excited they were about their mother’s latest fortune and how her persistence in playing the Lottery has finally paid off. Her eldest daughter who was seated next to her explained how she helped her mother play LOTTO on Wednesdays and Saturdays and POWERBALL on Tuesdays and Fridays.
“Once my mother has selected her numbers, I go to the shop and play on her behalf. In the evenings I stay up with her to watch the draw show and tell her the numbers, as her eyesight is deteriorating. When I realised that all her numbers were drawn on Wednesday, I was too excited to sleep. We stayed up the whole night dancing and singing,” she said.
The next morning the family made their way to the ITHUBA offices to claim their winnings. The winner said that she regarded her luck as a blessing from the heavens, considering that she has been playing the Lottery for almost 6 years but the most amount of money she has ever won was R50. Asked if she will continue playing the Lottery, the winner said she looked forward to playing every week as it would be weird for her to stop.
With her eyes lighting up, the ecstatic winner said: “I have always daydreamed about getting onto a plane to Cape Town so much that I used to jokingly tell my children that if I win the LOTTO, I will get on a flying machine so I know what it feels like.”
As a diabetic patient, the pensioner said she can now access the best healthcare facilities and plans to buy a family car so she doesn’t have to worry about commuting to the doctor. The new multi-millionaire said she will use her money to fix her house as the roof was caving in and that she also intends to build each of her children a house.
“I come from a mountainous village in Limpopo and the roads are bad, I will use some of the money to build a road in the community,” she said.
The winner concluded that since she started playing the Lottery, she has never had a method to choosing her numbers, she added that she randomly chose her winning numbers as she usually does.

15 Million LOTTO Jackpot winner looks forward to spoiling his wife of 20 years.

After 20 years of being unemployed, this 15 million LOTTO jackpot winner said that he can finally give his wife the life she has always dreamt of. The 59-year-old pastor from Polokwane in Limpopo said that his winnings were a gift from God.
Excited, the winner said that he wanted to use his millions to uplift the church and to give back to those closest to him, who were financially helpful towards his family during their most trying times.
“I plan to spoil my wife of 20 years as a token of appreciation to her, for sticking by my side when the going was tough. People used to tell her to leave me because I was broke. Today, I’m a millionaire!” he said.
The business minded pastor who farms in his spare time said that although he had tried setting up Spaza Shops and other informal trades of business over the years to generate some income, he planned to spend his millions on the church and pursue his love for farming.
The first time winner said that he was glad he had not given up believing that he would one day win the jackpot. Recalling his lucky moment, he explained that the numbers appeared to him in a dream and when he woke up, he wasted no time.
“I decided to take my chances and placed my bet using R20. I am glad I did,” he concluded.
Having missed the draw show, the winner checked the numbers at an outlet on his way home but didn’t realise that he had struck the jackpot until he got home, where he shared the news with his wife. The instant millionaire was still in disbelief and said that he never thought this would happen to him.
