Lotto (61)

A lottery ticket bought from Shoprite in Glen Ridge, Soweto won the R20-million Lotto Guaranteed jackpot from the Saturday, 30 April draw, turning a mid-50s factory worker into a multi-millionaire.

She had bought the R20 winning ticket around midday on that Saturday and was the only one that matched all six Lotto numbers scooping the guaranteed jackpot. To celebrate last Wednesday’s April 27 Freedom Day holiday, Ithuba raised the stakes by putting up a R20-million guaranteed Lotto jackpot for the Saturday evening’s draw. The prize has been claimed by a shocked and emotional woman from Soweto last week.

She had kept her winning ticket inside her Bible and thought it had been a big mistake that it somehow matched all six numbers. She’s thrilled that she will finally get to fulfill her dream of retiring early and acquire a home by the sea. “This will transform my life,” she said while struggling to hold back tears.

She said her other dream of buying her daughter a house will finally also be fulfilled. She’s excited that her retirement money will now be like an added bonus as she enters a new life as a South Africa’s newest multi-millionaire.
This is the Lotto game’s 31st R1-million-plus jackpot winning ticket since June last year when Ithuba took over the running of the lottery.

A total of 39 Lotto jackpots have been won since June 2015, only eight jackpot winners in the Lotto received pay-outs of less than R1-million. Meanwhile, Ithuba has already created 53 millionaire winners across all lottery games since June 2015, making one millionaire a week on average.

The Saturday was all about winning in the lottery as another ticket bought at Cape Town’s Bonteheuwel Post Office in the Western Cape, won the R1.5-million Lotto Plus jackpot, at the same draw. Ithuba has already seen 100 jackpot winners across all lottery games with the Lotto Plus leading after having recorded a total of 43 jackpot winners. More than half of all jackpot winners across all the games have walked away with R1-million-Plus winnings.

THE Lotto game has undergone exciting changes which will see players winning more – including more in jackpots.
Research by National Lottery operator, Ithuba, has shown that most Lotto players in South Africa want to win more in Jackpots and for matching at least 3 numbers .

As part of its ongoing mission aimed at reinvigorating the lottery games and bringing about more excitement, Ithuba is making changes to the Lotto and Lotto Plus games.

In an unprecedented move, the Lotto game will see more allocations go into the jackpots for lottery players.
Newly-introduced changes by Ithuba will also see changes such as a fixed guaranteed prize pay-out of R50 for those matching 3 numbers on Lotto. At the moment if players get to match 3 numbers, they are paid out varying amounts which were dependent on the number of people that have won in the division.

There will also be changes in the second chance game, Lotto Plus, which will now see its jackpot rolling over instead of rolling down as it’s the case currently. The Lotto Plus jackpot will now keep on rolling until it’s been won, leading to sizeable jackpots.

Lotto Plus will also feature a fixed guaranteed prize pay-out of R20 for those matching 3 numbers. Changes will also include the introduction of the QuickPick option on the bet slip which has been given a new look and feel for the players’ convenience.

The changes which will kick in from Sunday May 22, 2016 where a mega guaranteed jackpot will be on the line for the Saturday 28th May draw. The changes will also see Lotto tickets retailing for R5.00 while the price of Lotto Plus will retail for R2.50.

MORE is at stake this Saturday with a R30-million guaranteed jackpot for LOTTO up for grabs.
Tickets for the guaranteed jackpot draw are on sale, and the draw will take place on Saturday, 28 May.
Sunday May 22 saw the launch of the enhanced Lotto and Lotto Plus games which have undergone exciting facelifts.
The changes are part of the lottery operator’s mission of enhancing and reinvigorating the lottery games to make them more exciting and appealing.

Ithuba has however also decided to up the ante by putting up a staggering R30 million guaranteed jackpot to coincide with the much-awaited launch.

Research by Ithuba has shown that SA lottery players want to win more and the lottery operator responded by bringing about changes that will allow more allocations in Lotto jackpots. There’s more in the Lotto jackpot prize, which is an estimated 50% more than previously.

The changes will allow the Lotto game more flexibility and put it in line with international benchmarks, allowing more funds to be available for the jackpot prizes.

Changes also include a guaranteed fixed prize pay-out of R50 for matching 3 numbers in the Lotto game. In the past the prize was determined by a number of tickets matching three numbers and thus sharing a prize pool.
Other changes include the introduction of the Quickpick option on the bet slip which has been given a new fresh look.
The Lotto Plus jackpot will, going forward, be rolling over instead of rolling down if not won. This means the Lotto Plus jackpot will keep growing leading to much bigger jackpots if not won.

Lotto Plus also has a guaranteed fixed prize pay-out of R20 for those matching 3 numbers.
Lotto tickets are now retailing at R5.00 while Lotto Plus retailing at R2.50.
The Saturday, 28 May, evening’s live Lotto draw will take place at 9pm on
SABC 2. Ticket sales close at 20:30, 30 minutes before the live draw.

EXCITING times are here for LOTTO players across South Africa with three jackpots up for grabs every Wednesday and Saturday evening – giving players more chances at becoming instant millionaires.

Keeping in line with our promise to reinvigorate the lottery, ITHUBA, is bringing changes to the first game that was launched under the National Lottery portfolio of games back in 2000. ITHUBA is introducing LOTTO PLUS 2, which will add to the already existing LOTTO, and LOTTO PLUS games from 30 July 2017.  LOTTO PLUS will now be re-branded as LOTTO PLUS 1.

These recent enhancements of the LOTTO game by the National Lottery Operator – Ithuba – will result in more chances at winning the jackpot for players and most importantly more funds towards good causes among other benefits. The introduction of LOTTO PLUS 2 means players will now have a third chance of winning the jackpot and all other prizes at every LOTTO draw.

The amount of money distributed by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund is always directly linked to the volume of ticket sales, and with over R2.6 billion transferred to the NLDTF for good causes since June 2015, the introduction of LOTTO PLUS 2 will surely lead to more funds being raised towards the good causes.

The LOTTO PLUS 2 will be priced at R2.50 including VAT at 14%, the same price as the second opportunity game, LOTTO PLUS 1. The LOTTO PLUS 2 is set to be a game changer in the industry. LOTTO Product Manager, Asad Gafoor, said the changes were made with the player in mind, and growing the millionaire winners’ pool. “LOTTO is the oldest game in the National Lottery game catalogue and very popular. Being the longest standing game, there is a need to keep the game fresh and enjoyable. This way we can give back more to the players,” Asad Gafoor said.

LOTTO players will for the first time ever have six jackpots to try for in just one week.

“LOTTO PLUS 2 is an addition to the current LOTTO, and LOTTO PLUS games and each draw will now carry a jackpot for all three games. We are not only bringing bigger jackpots, but we have also added an extra prize division which will increase the overall odds of winning,” said Asad Gafoor.

The LOTTO game is available on multiple channels including traditional retailers, the National Lottery web site, USSD, Banks, and handheld devices such as Flash, Kazang, Blue Label and A2 Pay, making the games easily accessible.

To be launched on the 30th of July 2017.

A North West man has joined the list of millionaires after winning the LOTTO jackpot of R17 527 655.10. After a string of bad luck, the LOTTO winner has finally seen lady luck smile his way.

Last year February the winner was diagnosed with prostate cancer and subsequent to that his life and family’s started to unravel. “After finding out I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer I felt like my life was coming to an end. I started cancer treatment and all I could do was hope for the best,” said the winner.

As the winner was busy coming to terms with the cancer ordeal, bad-luck struck again on the 18th of May this year when he was driving to work. “My work requires me to travel a lot and on this day I was on the road and suddenly my left eye was blurry and I was struggling to see the road. I consulted a doctor and he scheduled an emergency operation. Unfortunately, the operation was not a success and I lost all vision in my left eye,” explained the teary winner.

After the operation, the winner couldn’t resume work and this affected his income, and in June he received his last cheque from the company as his sick leave days had been depleted. “We were already struggling to make ends meet as I was not earning a full salary since being at home. It was really tough without a stable income and being the main breadwinner I thought we were going to be destitute.”

After all this misfortune, on the 26th of July 2017, the winner’s life was never to be the same again. On that day he won R17.5 million from the LOTTO draw. This avid player says he always had a hunch that someday he will bag the LOTTO millions.

Winning the LOTTO wasn’t the first bit of good news, he also recently found out after a recent visit to the doctor that he has been cleared of cancer. “You can imagine my shock when the doctor said my blood count shows that there is no trace of cancer. I feel like I have been giving a new lease on life,” said the winner.

The player spent R45.00 on his winning ticket and says the first person he shared the news with was his wife. “After visiting my local store and seeing I had a winning ticket I immediately drove back home and shared the news with my wife. She was in the kitchen when I told her the news we both started crying as we couldn’t believe it,” said the winner.

The LOTTO winnings have also allowed him to have another eye operation that will help restore his sight. He also plans to enjoy his retirement; invest some of the windfall, share the money with his children, and buy his grandson a car he promised him.

Ithuba also provided the winner with financial advice and counselling to ensure that the winner has all the knowledge, resources and advice on how to cope with his new wealth.
