KwaMashu man wins PowerBall Jackpot

Written by

A KwaMashu man has joined the ever growing list of millionaires that Ithuba has created after winning the PowerBall jackpot of R8 446 068.90. The winning ticket was bought at Hines Cash and Carry, Durban for the draw that took place on 09 December 2016.

The KwaZulu-Natal-born man – an avid player of lottery games – said he has been playing the same numbers for over 16 years and his perseverance has finally paid off.

On the day he bought the winning ticket for R45.00 and as per norm, he stuck to his numbers that he has been playing all these past years. “I don’t know how to describe it to you, but I honestly had a belief that someday my numbers would win. That is why I never stopped playing the same numbers all these years,” expressed the winner when asked why he never changed numbers.

The player revealed that he had the longest night of his life after realising that he was the jackpot winner. “I was watching the live draw show when my five numbers plus the PowerBall came through. It felt surreal. I had to check the ticket three times to make sure I really won”.

“It then hit me that indeed I was a millionaire. Afterwards, I immediately fetched a pen to write my name on the back of my ticket and had a silent prayer to thank my God and ancestors,” the visibly jubilant winner expressed.
The jackpot winner says he wants to settle all his debts with his winnings and also give a financial boost to his family so they can self-sustain. “I’ve already made contact with my home loan provider and I want to settle my bond, then look to extending my house.

“But also just as important for me is to ensure that my new wealth is not only enjoyed by me but my family too. I want to give a financial business loan to my family members so they can sustain themselves and not look for handouts, that way the wealth of our family will grow beyond this,” said the winner.
Ithuba also provided the winner with a financial adviser to ensure that the winner has all the knowledge, resources and advice on how to cope with his new wealth.

The winner jokingly says after all these years it is now time to change the numbers he normally plays on lottery games as the previous ones have served their purpose.

Month-end blues can be a thing of the past with the two massive jackpots for PowerBall and PowerBall PLUS on the line this Friday, 24 March 2017.

This Friday’s draw sees the PowerBall PLUS jackpot at an all-time high of R43 million and the PowerBall jackpot estimated at R29 million. To have a jackpot winning ticket, the player will have to match all five numbers and the PowerBall. Ticket sales close 30 minutes before the draw.

Coming with yet another life-changing jackpot is LOTTO PLUS estimated at R29 million for the Saturday draw on 25 March 2017. The winner of this jackpot would have to match all six numbers to walk away with the jackpot.
Lottery tickets are available from National Lottery retailers nationwide, OR online: www.nationallottery.co.za, and mobile device channels such as FLASH, Kazang and A2PAY.

The Gauteng man who struck lucky twice on the PowerBall game has come forward to claim his winnings. The winner, who has asked not to be named, bought his two winning tickets with the same numbers from two different stores in the East of Johannesburg. Yes, two tickets that won in the same draw!

The winner who has been a regular lottery player since inception told Ithuba that he has, without fail, always played specific numbers and trusted that some day his numbers will come through. He told Ithuba that he bought the first ticket on a Friday morning while on his way to work and forgot that he had played, and made another bet later on the same day.

On that PowerBall draw, the jackpot was R30.6 million and there were four winning tickets each worth R7.6 million and the lucky Johannesburg-based engineer walked away with R15.2 million. The PowerBall draw took place on 24 March 2017.

The first winning ticket was bought at One Stop Spar in Kempton Park where he played for R45.00 and the second winning ticket was purchased at Brenthurst Supermarket, Brakpan where he also played for another R45.00. Upon discovering that he had won, he kept on checking and re-checking his two tickets, in disbelief.

The winner says he plans on investing most of his winnings which will go towards retirement and also settle all of his debts including his bond and car repayments. The winner informed Ithuba that he had also been one of those affected by the Johannesburg floods last year where his car was swept away by the floods. “This is indeed a miracle, as I can now pay off the debt I had incurred for the new vehicle and also help those in need around me”, said the PowerBall winner.

The winner described the experience as surreal and unbelievable. “My wife and I still wake up in the middle of the night in disbelief. This is the biggest win that the winner has had and came in two folds.

Ithuba congratulates the winner and this is a rare win, one that the lottery operator has not seen before. When asked whether he will continue working, the winner responded, “I will continue working and later retire on the coast”.
To those who have not yet won anything on the lottery, the winner advises players to not stop trying and to also play if they are able to afford and play responsibly.

AFTER eleven rollovers, the PowerBall jackpot has now risen to an estimated R33.2 million jackpot for the Tuesday, 21 June, evening’s draw.
A lucky player that matches all five numbers and the PowerBall stands a chance of winning one of 2016’s biggest lottery jackpots and will immediately join SA’s multi-millionaires’ club. The PowerBall game has already had 16 jackpot millionaire winners and created over 19 million winners, since Ithuba took over the running of the lottery a year ago.

The biggest PowerBall jackpot winner this year was a player from Gauteng who walked away with a staggering R42 million won on 22 January 2016.Winning the jackpot comes more often as already a total of 107 jackpots have been won across all lottery games in the last 12 months, and produced 63 millionaires in the process.

Tuesday night’s draw will be broadcast live e.tv at 9pm while tickets must be bought before 8:30pm as sales close 30 minutes before the draw.

SOMEONE in KwaZulu-Natal could be R19-million richer but might not even be aware. The owner of the PowerBall PLUS lottery ticket that won the staggering R19 292 600 jackpot in July last year is yet to come forward and has less than one week left to claim their life-changing winnings.

In case the winnings are not claimed this coming Saturday, the R19.2-million will be forfeited and be retained by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund. Winners have one year to claim their winnings in accordance with the National Lottery terms and conditions.

The winning ticket was bought at The Pie Train shop in Isipingo, Durban and was the only one in the entire country to match all five numbers and the PowerBall in the PowerBall PLUS game on Friday July 29, 2016.The PowerBall PLUS jackpot had been very elusive with numerous rollovers which saw it growing to a massive R19.2-million.

Winners of two other big jackpots which include a LOTTO Jackpot of R15-million won in December and a PowerBall PLUS Jackpot of R21-million won last month, are also yet to come forward.

Lottery players are urged to check their tickets. All the previous lottery draw results and payouts can be accessed via the National Lottery Website: www.nationallottery.co.za.

Four people in South Africa may forfeit more than R39 million if they don’t come forward to claim their lottery winnings. Four South African Powerball and Powerball Plus players have yet to collect massive wins of over R39 million says Ithuba, licensed operator of the National Lottery. Through either losing their ticket, not realising they won or some other factors four people have yet to collect on life changing amounts of money – but they still have time to come forward to claim their winnings.

The biggest win yet to be claimed is for a sum of R21 747 237.30 from 30 June draw for a Powerball Plus ticket bought in Gauteng. The second biggest unclaimed win was from draw date 3 October for Powerball also in Gauteng for the sum of R13 019 619.60. Followed by Powerball Plus R3 450 164.40 and Powerball Plus R1 292 638.80 in Gauteng, draw dates 21 July and 29 September respectively.

Gauteng region appears to be the most frequent on the list for not claiming prizes this year alone.
National Lottery Head of Marketing, Khensani Mabuza says: “If you bought a ticket, make sure you check to see if you are a winner. We have provided various ways of making it easy for our players to check if they are winners these include our website www.nationallottery.co.za , Player Hotline 0800 484 822 (toll free – calls from landline only) and we have ticket checker machines at select retail stores.”

“You have 365 days to claim your ticket,” explains Mabuza. “In order to claim you will need your ID book/card, winning
ticket, bank statement and proof of residence. You can also check from your retailer where you bought your ticket. We advise our players to keep playing, and of course, to always check the ticket even if you’re almost certain you haven’t won!” concludes Mabuza.

THE jackpot gods were looking down on two lucky winners from Gauteng and the Western Cape when they discovered that they had won a total of R30 million in jackpot winnings.
A lottery ticket bought from Moloto, Gauteng won the Powerball R24 million jackpot from draw 811 turning a garden service worker into a multi-millionaire. When the 38-year old father of three discovered that he had won the Powerball he had played for R30, he could not believe his luck. “I paid lobola in 2012 and having a white wedding was a pipe dream, with my Powerball jackpot winnings I can finally give my wife the wedding she has always dreamed of,” said the elated R24 million jackpot winner.  The Powerball jackpot millionaire states he has always been a careful spender when it came to money and these winnings will be no different. He plans on building his family a home, and has always had the desire to travel. Besides paying for his kids education he would like to spoil them a bit with their favourite treats – pizza and cake! After undergoing financial and emotional counselling, provided by Ithuba Winner Services, the Powerball jackpot millionaire says he plans on continuing with the counselling sessions. He is determined not to lose his ubuntu and wants to take things one step at a time. His advice to others – “Play Powerball, it is real”.

In the Western Cape, a R80 ticket scooped the R6 million jackpot on the LOTTO Plus game. As a regular player of LOTTO Plus, the R6 million winner usually played for R60, this time he decided to do things differently.  He then changed how he selects numbers: instead of his usual Quick Pick he used the age difference between himself and his brother and dates of family milestones. The new strategy yielded new results and in this instance, winning results! “I am a regular Wednesday and Saturday player, however this time around I changed how I play the game.”  The government worker turned instant millionaire woke up the next day, got ready for work as usual, not knowing that he had just entered South Africa’s millionaires’ club. He only found out while at work that he has won big in the lottery when he checked the winning numbers online. The pleasant surprise seemed way too big a secret for him to keep and he confided in his son. Anxiety and disbelief however still got the better of him throughout the day as he found himself constantly checking his ticket which he had carefully marked with his name behind the ticket and kept safely in his wallet.

“At work I decided to check my results, I saw the match but I wasn’t sure so I put my ticket away. Every hour of the night I was checking and rechecking. I decided that the coming Saturday my family and I would double check. We hid the ticket in the bedroom, and come Saturday we all gathered around the table. We would read out loud the winning numbers, checked against our ticket for a match, underlining each number to ensure we were not mistaken,” he shares laughing.

“This will change our lives – we have been in so much debt. The bond repayments were heavy and we could barely afford the school fees. We relied a lot on borrowing – we were living from hand to mouth so this big win could not have come at a better time.”

Cape Town – Thursday 2 November 2017 – Every South African senior citizen deserves a secure and comfortable retirement. For two 75-year-old PowerBall winners this rang true when they both learnt of their Powerball winnings – R13 million for a Free State pensioner and R6 million for Western Cape pensioner. Even though the pair have never met, they shared a common excitement when realising they are one of South Africans oldest millionaires.

A regular Powerball player in his twilight years, the Western Cape pensioner says even though he is officially retired he still keeps busy with small construction/building projects. “I have always believed in hard work and earning a living for my family, now that I am retired there is no reason to stop working.”

The PowerBall jackpot winner bought four PowerBall tickets from the Post Office. He checked the following day and as he states: “I woke up poor and went to bed rich!” He says he shared his winning news with his wife and kids, and immediately plans to build a bigger house for his wife and grandchildren. “I am also planning on buying a reliable vehicle so that I can take my wife on a long road trip across South Africa.”
For Free State retiree, he showed that senior citizens do keep up with the times and always plays his Powerball via his banking phone app. “My wife constantly tells me about my beeping phone because of text messages, well this time around I told her my SMS’s were the bearer of good news, we have won the PowerBall,” he says cheerfully.

Tips for pensioners from Ithuba winner services financial advisors

According to financial advisor Mbuso Shange:

Financial planning must always be done in the interest of the client. I would find out from the elderly winner how his family relations are like – if bad I would quickly advise he/she buy into a retirement village. If good, Shange recommends he/she shares his winnings with children or grandchildren. The bulk of the winnings Shange advises investing in order to generate a monthly income from his winnings. If the elderly winner didn’t save enough for his pension and winning is a last rescue, he would advise them to get great medical aid, and even though costly at R4000 a month it is a necessity at this age.

A modest R30 Quick Pick ticket to open doors to tranquillity for one of Gauteng moms and day-care centre principal.

Johannesburg, Gauteng, April, 2018 – The thought of winning the jackpot alone is enough to give anyone goosebumps — to think that all your dreams could simply come true in a flash. The actual winning though, is a momentous event that fills the winner with many positive emotions all at once. The latest Powerball jackpot winner experienced this first hand when she realised that she was the single winner of a whopping R36 million earlier in April.
“I could not believe what my son was telling me. He is the one that checked the numbers on TV and he literally fell on his knees, screaming: ‘We won!’” – Jackpot winner (Translated from SeSotho)

Even though the winner has been a loyal LOTTO player for some time now, she says that ever since she heard about the Quick Pick playing method on the radio, it has been her preferred playing method; and it is through this method that she has won the jackpot. She joins approximately 60 other winners who have struck it lucky with the Quick Pick selection in 2018 so far.

The winner is a day-care principal and also owns a small business within her community in Gauteng. In addition to that, she has been involved in numerous community uplifting projects for many years. Besides taking in the magnitude of her R36 million win, our winner is simply looking at this amazing prize as an opportunity to continue to further help those in need.
“Having worked on community projects that have been sustained by donations for many years, I know how good it feels to be on the receiving end. Now that I am a jackpot winner, I want to be on the giving side, and help those in need.”

During the financial advice session, which ITHUBA offers to all jackpot game winners free of charge, the winner said that she seeks nothing more than to have a comfortable home in tranquil surroundings. Besides continuing with her personal empowerment initiatives, she plans to relax, entertain friends and family and enjoy the peace of mind that we all seek through financial stability. In the end, she said that she was happy that she decided to spend a bit of her money to take a chance on this life-changing game.

“I would like to encourage South Africans to really keep playing PowerBall and the LOTTO because I have seen it with my own eyes that winning is possible. I only spent R30 on my ticket and in turn won millions.”, she said in a voice filled with gratitude.
We congratulate the new winner and wish all players the best of luck as they to continue to Phanda, Pusha, Play. Players must be 18 years and older. Play responsibly.
