The latest SPORTSTAKE 13 winner has scored the jackpot of R1 135 259.20! Still in utter disbelief, the 50-year-old from Joubertina in the Eastern Cape said the thought of building a home for his children excited him.
Accompanied by his 19-year-old son to the Ithuba offices, the winner said he still could not believe that at long last, lady luck had favoured him. Spending R8.00 on his winning ticket, the winner said he usually spends an average of R250 a month on POWERBALL and LOTTO but has never won anything from any of the games. He did not expect his luck to change when he started playing SPORTSTAKE 13 a few weeks ago.
“Last month I was curious about how to play SPORTSTAKE 13, so I asked my neighbour to explain the game to me. I started playing the game recently and prefer choosing the PROPICK option, as it matches more games than when I play the manual selection,” he explained.
The father of 7 said that building a home for his children has always been a dream of his as he currently lives with his sister and her children; adding that when the whole family comes to visit around the festive season, the 1 bedroom house gets too crowded.
“I’ve always imagined myself waking up in my own house with all of my children. It has always been a dream of mine to build a decent home and live with all of my children under one roof, now I can finally make that dream a reality.” he said.
Having been out of work since February this year, the excited winner said life has been difficult for him and his family financially. He said he depended on the local contracting company which called him when work was available.
“Although I haven’t told people about my new fortune, most people from my home town already know because of the advertising of where the jackpot was won. We play as a group and everyone who has checked their tickets have confirmed that they didn’t win,” he added.
Reminiscing about the day he found out that he won from the shop where he played, the winner said at first he was confused because he was told to go to the Ithuba offices. He said he was excited but plans to remain humble and continue playing SPORTSTAKE 13.

The National Lottery’s sports betting game, Sportstake, will for the first time offer a guaranteed jackpot of R500 000 this weekend.
Ithuba, the national lottery operator, is raising the stakes by putting up a R500 000 guaranteed Sportstake jackpot.
The weekend fixture list opens from today, Thursday for all betting to be made.
This weekend’s Sportstake fixture list will see the game’s highest jackpot up for grabs for those correctly predicting the results of all 12 matches.
The highest Sportstake jackpot since Ithuba took over the running of the lottery last year, was R400 000 which was won in July last year, with the second highest being R300 000 won in December.
This year’s highest Sportstake jackpot was R235 000 won two months ago.
The Sportstake game has had over 2.6-million winners already with 16 winners walking away with over R100 000-plus winnings. In just 103 draws, Ithuba has paid out over R135 million to Sportstake players.
The weekend Sportstake fixture list will be available from Thursday June 2 from the all retailers nationwide, national lottery website and Friday’s Daily Sun newspaper. Players can play via the retailer or on the National Lottery website. The fixture will close on Saturday June 4 at 17:30.

THE National Lottery’s sports betting game, SPORTSTAKE, has undergone exciting changes that will see players playing for a bigger jackpot.
The changes will see the name of the game change to SPORTSTAKE 13 as it will now feature 13 soccer fixtures as opposed to 12 fixtures. Match lists will still be offered twice a week.There will also be an additional fourth prize division in this game format, players will win by matching 13 out 13 fixtures, 12 out of 13 fixtures, 11 out of 13 fixtures or 10 out of 13 fixtures.
As part of its ongoing mission aimed at reinvigorating the lottery games and bringing about more excitement, ITHUBA is also introducing PROPICK which is a quick play option based on multi-play bets where the system will automatically choose match results on behalf of the player. The new PROPICK feature is an equivalent of a Quick Pick as in other lottery games like LOTTO and PowerBall. When choosing PROPICK, the system will choose fixture outcomes on behalf of the player by making use of intelligent software configuration that considers history of play between teams in a fixtures and random selections.
